2012 Bicentennial Trip to Scotland

Anyone interested in joining a TLSARL trip to Scotland in the summer of 2012? We are still planning, but need to know who is seriously interested so we can plan destinations according to descendant interests – there’s no point in going to Kildonan if no one from the Kildonan descendants is on the tour, right?

Essentially, the tour will be a pilgrimmage to our ancestors’ homes and other significant places in their lives in Scotland. We will also visit places that reflect various aspects of their lives there and the history of their local parishes.

Please, send me an email through the Contact Us Form noting your ancestors’ names and the places you’d be interested in visiting. This will also place you on our email list for the event.

Selkirk Settlers’ Parade Reminder!

The Fifth Annual Selkirk Settlers’ Parade will take place September 12, 2009. Participants will marshal at City Hall at 11:30, and members of TLSARL are invited to march under our new banner. Join the fun, and help us give a good showing for this event celebrating our ancestors!
The route progresses from City Hall along Main to Bannatyne, then along Waterfront Drive to the Settlers’ Monument & Scots’ Monument where a ceremony of recognition will take place as in past years. The keynote speaker will be Bill Matheson, President of TLSARL.
Please show your support for Bill and TLSARL by taking part (we had a lot of fun last year!).

The bicentennial of the arrival of the first group of Selkirk Settlers at the Red River Colony in 1812 is rapidly approaching. If you could manage all the preparations, how would you celebrate? Would you indulge in a pilgrimage to Scotland to see your ancestors’ homes? Would you go on a tour of RRS related historic sites here in Canada? What would you like to see TLSARL put together as part of the celebrations?
